The Many Ways
of Lucid Dreaming - Part 1
While for some people lucid dreams come naturally, others have
to try hard to reach the lucid state. Be that as it may, there
are many ways one can have lucid dreams and anyone and
everyone can do this, if you put in some efforts.
The first requirement to have lucid dreams is to lead a
tension-free life, where you allow yourself to be restful and
give time to lucid dreaming.
There was a time when just recollecting my lucid dreams and
putting them on paper would take me close to 2 hours. These
days however I have got busy with other things and as a
consequence, I have fewer lucid dreams. Hence the right time
to start with your lucid dreaming is when you are
comparatively free, for instance, during a vacation.
Once you are successful with your lucid dreaming, you will
find the subsequent dreams happen pretty fast and you can
reach the lucid state quite suddenly.
Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams (MILD) Technique
Tune your mind in such a way that you can recall the dreams
you have had. After you are awake, try to recall the dreams in
as much detail as possible.
When you go back to sleep again, put your complete attention
on your intention to realize that you are dreaming. Keep on
telling your self that the next time you are dreaming, you
want remember that you are dreaming. Make this type of
auto-suggestion powerful enough to turn your mind completely
towards this intention with all earnestness.
Whenever you find your mind getting distracted with other
thoughts, let the thoughts go on its own and return to your
original focus of attention – to remember that you are
dreaming.
You must train your mind simultaneously to remember the last
dream you have had, as soon as you wake up. In case you find
it difficult to remember the last dream, you could go back to
another dream you have had recently. While doing so, remember
that it is a dream that you are having. In short, become aware
of your dream state. For instance, if you want to dream that
you are flying or suspended in mid-air, go on dreaming about
this idea till you realize that you have reached the perfect
state of fantasizing and that you are actually in a dream
state, though not really fast asleep.
You could go on repeating these steps given above, till such
times that you are firm in your intentions. You can then let
your self go and fall asleep. In case you find that while
falling asleep, your thoughts have started to roam, repeat the
lucid dreaming procedure to re-focus on your intention to
realize that you are dreaming the next time.
Taking naps
You may also refer to this concept as making some adjustments
to your sleep pattern. For instance, you have set an alarm to
wake you up a few hours before you actually have to get up. As
soon as the alarm goes off you are awake. Read some literature
about lucid dreaming and try to go back to sleep, this time
with the honest intention of lucid dreaming. This can also be
done after you have woken up from a deep sleep and still in
the early dozing state. Without getting up, you could doze off
into a slumber, with the constant thought behind your mind
that you are giving yourself a chance to get into a lucid
dream state, where you could have lucid dreams. If you can
actually gauge your REM (Rapid Eye Movement) cycles, which the
real time when dreaming takes place, then you could set your
alarm at the precise time when the dreaming gets over. |
